Keeping the “Public” in Public Schools!
Hi! My name is Warigia (“Wa-RIG-ee-ah”) Bowman and education runs in my blood. I am a third generation New Mexican. My mother immigrated from Kenya, where she was one of the first five Black African women to attend high school there. My grandfather, a Presbyterian Minister, sold half of his land to educate his daughters. My paternal grandmother was a public school teacher in Manuelito, New Mexico during World War II, where my father attended kindergarten. Education is very important to my family.
My 17 year old son and my 15 year old son both attend Sandia High School (Go Matadors!) in Albuquerque Public Schools. My daughter is currently in college. I am a Professor at the University of New Mexico School of Law and I have 17 years of experience as a classroom teacher.
As you can tell, I come from a family of public service and public schools. Believe me when I say I will fight, with everything my grandparents taught me, to keep the “public” in Albuquerque’s public schools.
I hope I get the opportunity to meet you as this campaign progresses. You can always call or email me at 505-690-4033 and campaign@warigiaforaps.com
With gratitude,
Warigia
